This special kit was built by renowned drum tech Gary Grimm, who worked for Peter Erskine during 1993 on the road with Steely Dan. Peter first played this kit at a recording session and at the behest of the engineer, purchased it soon after. Peter referred to this kit as his "secret weapon," and went on to use this kit on "countless" recording sessions such as Lyle Mays "Street Dreams," Michael Brecker's "Don't Try This At Home," and his very own 1988 album ""Motion Poet," just to name a few. You may have also heard this kit played on all three Austin Powers film scores! Shells are North American Birch by Eames Drum Shells, finished in a smokey gloss black.

The current owner of this one-of-a-kind kit acquired it directly from Peter Erskine himself, via trade (a photo of an email exchange between the two is attached to this listing, where Peter offers up much of the aforementioned information). Peter cites signing with Tama and wanting to downsize his collection as the reason for letting this kit go. Could it be yours, next? 

14x20 - Drum has some scratches throughout from regular use, but nothing severe. 20x Tama lugs, 20x Ludwig claws with standard tension rods. Tama tom mount and Yamaha spurs. Hardware is all clean, no pitting or corrosion. 6-ply maple hoops.

14x14 - Some light scratches here and there, with one noticeable tiny blemish in the finish down to the birch on the batter side up near the top of a lug. DW floor tom legs and brackets. 16x Tama lugs and triple-flange hoops. Hardware is clean, no pitting or corrosion. 

12x13 - Some very light scratches on this one, but overall the finish is in good shape. 12x Tama lugs and triple-flange hoops. Lugs are clean, no pitting or corrosion. Hoops are a little bit dirty, but would polish up like new. RIMS mount with DW bracket. 

10x12 - Drum has a few light scratches and one chip in the finish to the left of the vent hole. 12x Tama lugs are clean, no corrosion or pitting. Triple-flange hoops are clean. RIMS mount with what might be an older Tama-style bracket. 

9x10 - This shell has a decent amount of light scratches throughout, but again nothing too serious. 12x Tama lugs and triple-flange hoops are very clean. RIMS mount with the same older Tama-style bracket.

8x8 - The finish on this drum looks ever so slightly different from the rest of the kit. It is overall a bit darker and more opaque, with some checking in the lacquer. 8x Tama lugs and triple-flange hoops are clean. RIMS mount with the same older Tama-style bracket.
